I argued with myself quite a bit over creating an about me page. They always seem so forced.
So, like my approach to marketing and communications, we're going to keep this weird. And, most importantly, personal and engaging.
First, here's the paragraph of professional blah, blah, blah.
I am a multichannel marketer, campaign developer and leader, content creator, and national spokesperson with 20+ years of experience and a deep commitment to activism and mission-focused social change. I am highly skilled at advancing local nonprofit and national corporate partnerships, media relations, art direction, project and event management, and budget oversight. I am also deeply passionate about connecting people and causes. Throughout my career, I have been known for a motivating sense of humor, strength in mediation and coalition building, success in “building campaigns out of thin air,” and a reputation for being a “creative idea factory.”
You can find all the other blah, blah, blah stuff here, where I have my resume and a campaign portfolio.
Now, let's talk about more exciting things.
Who is your most listened to artist?
Okay, so duh, Madonna. Growing up, my mom taught at my elementary school. Every morning, we would listen to her cassette tape of the Immaculate Collection on the way there. We did not always have cable growing up, so I had no idea at that age who Madonna was or what she even looked like. I just knew I loved our morning Vogue sessions. Today, I'm still a major fan because, through her music, Madonna taught me about strength, perseverance, and the courage to create and not give a damn. The photo on this page is when she touched my left hand while seeing her on tour during Like a Prayer. Shortly after that, I dropped and cracked my phone. Also, I still listen to Vogue every morning.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I feel like most people would respond to this question with some exotic destination, but to be honest, I want to be at my granny's house in my hometown of Sulphur, Louisiana. I want to watch her slowly rock in her chair below photos of our family, sip her coffee (or sometimes a beer), nervously bite her lip (like I do), and share stories about my parents. She is a force of empathy, kindness, and glory. She's also a smartass like me. I can't help that it runs in the family.
What would it be if you could only eat one type of food for the rest of your life?
Pho. Ramen. Lo mein. Dumplings. Fried rice. You see where this is going, right? I'm basically Miranda in Sex and the City regarding my Asian take-out places. I'm known by both my name and my phone number.
What would it be if you could only watch one television show for the rest of your life?
I'm a little bit Alexis. Well, and very much David when it comes to clothing.
What is your favorite animal and why?
My beautiful baby girl, Madame Roux Trinity Clement. She's a Hurricane Ida rescue dog from Louisiana. She's the apple of my eye and the best cuddle bug ever. She wakes me up every morning at 5:00 AM with a big sloppy kiss and a desperate plea to go outside. She also wants anyone reading this to send her more treats. Hit up my contact page, and she'll slide into your DMs with her PO box deets.
Describe your dream home.
I own it. It's a classic Buffalo Victorian home that I restored (and while on HGTV), and she has the most beautiful wood craftsmanship and stained-glass window features. Every time I come home from a trip, I throw my bags down and take a sigh of relief, knowing that I own and steward such a fantastic and unique historic place. Also, I live within steps of a Frank Lloyd Wright home and an Olmsted-designed parkway system, so yea, that's hot AF. (PS: Come to Buffalo. It's beautiful here. I'll show you around.)
What motivates you professionally?
I live for the moment when marketing isn't just about ads, influencers, and paid social, but when it genuinely ignites someone's passion and lights up their eyes. I've witnessed this throughout my cause-related career, and there's nothing better than knowing that you've inspired a perfect stranger to take meaningful action and become a changemaker. In my mind, that is what we're all here to do with our talent. And not just in marketing or communications or public relations, but in our pursuit of creating communities, partnerships, and friendships that get things done.
I love the reward of people seeing themselves make a difference.
XOXO,
Jason Loyd and Madame Roux Trinity Clement (Oh, and Madonna)
